About
Gengxi Hu is a prominent molecular biologist whose research has centered on the molecular mechanisms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and tissue-specific gene expression. Hu’s major contributions include pioneering the use of suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) combined with cDNA microarray technology to identify genes specifically expressed in nasopharyngeal epithelial tissue and those differentially regulated in NPC. This landmark work, published in 2003 and cited over 70 times, provided a foundational catalog of molecular targets for understanding NPC pathogenesis and potential diagnostic markers. By systematically comparing normal and cancerous tissues, Hu helped illuminate the transcriptional landscape of this endemic cancer, offering insights into its unique biology. Beyond this key study, Hu’s broader research has advanced knowledge of gene regulation in epithelial tissues and cancer progression. With a career spanning decades, Hu has been instrumental in training a generation of Chinese molecular biologists and fostering collaborative research on NPC. Their work remains highly influential, cited by subsequent studies exploring NPC biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and the molecular basis of tissue-specific gene expression.
