Dr. Friedrich‐Carl von Rundstedt is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work sits at the intersection of advanced robotics, 3D printing, and surgical education. His primary research areas include robotic-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RALPN), surgical simulation training, and the development of patient-specific anatomical models for preoperative planning. His most impactful contribution is the seminal 2016 study on utility of patient-specific silicone renal models for planning complex tumour resections prior to RALPN, which has garnered 130 citations and established a new standard for surgical rehearsal. Dr. von Rundstedt has also made significant strides in surgical training, validating a simulation model for robotic intracorporeal bowel anastomosis and a 3D-printed partial nephrectomy training model (2023).
