About

Dr. Dohoe Ku is a pioneering surgeon whose work is redefining the boundaries of minimally invasive endocrine and oncologic surgery. His primary research focuses on the development and validation of novel robotic and endoscopic techniques for the thyroid, adrenal, and breast. Dr. Ku is the driving force behind the innovative gas-insufflation one-step single-port transaxillary (GOSTA) approach for robotic thyroidectomy, a technique that eliminates visible neck scars. His landmark paper on the GOSTA approach has garnered 13 citations, establishing a new standard for scarless thyroid surgery. He has further expanded this platform to perform robotic modified radical neck dissections for thyroid carcinoma, demonstrating its feasibility for advanced disease. In adrenal surgery, his comparative studies between robotic and laparoscopic approaches, as well as between different robotic platforms (da Vinci SP vs. Xi), have provided critical data on optimizing patient outcomes. Most recently, his 2025 work on endoscopic mastectomy has proven it to be a cost-effective, time-efficient alternative to robotic mastectomy with comparable oncologic safety, offering a more accessible option for breast cancer patients. Through these contributions, Dr. Ku is not only advancing surgical precision but also democratizing access to state-of-the-art, scarless procedures.
