About
Danielle de Lara is a pioneering neurosurgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the surgical management of complex skull base pathologies. Her primary research focuses on the development and refinement of minimally invasive, multi-portal approaches—specifically the integration of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with endoscopic endonasal techniques. Her landmark 2013 paper, "Combined transoral robotic surgery and endoscopic endonasal approach for the resection of extensive malignancies of the skull base," which has garnered over 100 citations, established a novel cadaveric model and demonstrated the feasibility of combining these corridors to resect tumors in anatomically treacherous regions like the clivus and infratemporal fossa. This work directly addressed the critical challenge of achieving oncologic resection while minimizing morbidity. Further expanding the field, her study "Applications of transoral, transcervical, transnasal, and transpalatal corridors for Robotic surgery of the skull base" systematically characterized the advantages and limitations of each surgical route, providing an essential roadmap for surgeons.
