Daniel Ciampi de Andrade is a leading figure in pain neuroscience and neuromodulation, with a research focus on the mechanisms and treatment of chronic pain, particularly through non-invasive brain stimulation and peripheral nerve interventions. His major contributions include pioneering work on the use of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for pain relief, as well as investigating the role of the vagus nerve in modulating systemic inflammation. His studies have demonstrated that vagal electrostimulation can reduce postoperative complications, such as the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) following thoracic surgery, as evidenced by his 2023 experimental study in pigs.
