About

Colin G. Knight is a pioneering surgeon and researcher whose career has been defined by the intersection of robotic technology and pediatric minimally invasive surgery. His work has focused on developing and refining computer-assisted, robot-enhanced surgical techniques for some of the most technically demanding procedures in pediatric and fetal surgery. Knight was among the earliest advocates for applying robotic systems — particularly the Zeus Microwrist Surgical System — to children and newborns, a population where precision and dexterity are especially critical. His most cited work, "Pediatric Robotic Surgery: Lessons from a Clinical Experience" (2007, 57 citations), synthesized key insights from translating robotic surgery into real-world pediatric practice. Alongside foundational studies on robot-enhanced laparoscopic fundoplication, Morgagni hernia repair, pyeloplasty, and even fetoscopic surgery, Knight systematically demonstrated that tremor filtration, motion scaling, and improved instrument articulation could expand the boundaries of what minimally invasive surgery could achieve in small patients. His animal model investigations further established proof-of-concept for complex microsurgical applications. Through over a dozen publications accumulating more than 250 citations, Knight helped lay the intellectual and practical groundwork for the now widely accepted field of pediatric robotic surgery.
