About
Claudio Valotto is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work centers on advancing robotic-assisted surgery, particularly for prostate and kidney cancers. His most significant contribution is the development of the CORPUS technique—a novel complete reconstruction of the posterior urethral support following robotic radical prostatectomy. This innovation, detailed in his highly cited 2014 paper (33 citations), has proven instrumental in achieving very early continence recovery, a critical quality-of-life outcome for patients. Valotto’s research also addresses the practical challenges of robotic surgery, including the specific learning curve for port placement and docking of the da Vinci system, as well as the critical need for open conversion simulations and safety training programs. His prospective randomized study comparing transperitoneal versus extraperitoneal approaches during robotic prostatectomy (25 citations) provides valuable insights into the anesthesiologic effects of these techniques. Demonstrating remarkable versatility, Valotto reported the first case of a combined robotic-assisted retroperitoneoscopic partial nephrectomy and extraperitoneal prostatectomy. His work on complex surgical repair of ureteral injuries and the rare diagnosis and robotic treatment of giant fibroepithelial polyps further underscores his breadth. With over 150 total citations, Valotto’s contributions are shaping both surgical outcomes and training curricula in robotic urology.
