About

Casandra Anderson is a pioneering surgical oncologist whose research has fundamentally shaped the adoption of robotic-assisted surgery for gastrointestinal and thoracic malignancies. Working at the forefront of minimally invasive oncologic surgery, Anderson was among the earliest investigators to systematically evaluate robotic platforms for complex cancer procedures, producing a remarkably concentrated body of influential work in 2007–2009. Her most celebrated contribution, "Short-Term Outcomes After Robotic-Assisted Total Mesorectal Excision for Rectal Cancer," has accumulated 221 citations and remains a foundational reference in robotic colorectal surgery. Alongside her widely cited pilot series on robotic subtotal gastrectomy with extended lymphadenectomy (103 citations), Anderson helped establish both the feasibility and safety of applying robotic technology to technically demanding oncologic resections, including gastric, rectal, esophageal, and lung cancers. Her retrospective analyses of 73 robotic GI procedures and 21 robotic lung resections provided critical early evidence for a skeptical surgical community, demonstrating that robotic systems — with their three-dimensional vision, motion scaling, and articulated instruments — could meaningfully advance minimally invasive cancer care. With nearly 430 combined citations across her key publications, Anderson's work continues to inform surgeons worldwide navigating the evolving landscape of robotic oncologic surgery.
