About
Dr. Amy Wong is a leading voice in the emerging field of human-robot interaction (HRI), with a specific focus on service robot acceptance in frontline settings. Her research masterfully bridges technology adoption and consumer psychology, exploring both the drivers of and barriers to robotic engagement. Dr. Wong’s most cited work introduces the service robot acceptance model (sRAM), empirically demonstrating how attitude toward HRI and engagement shape consumer acceptance in museums. She has also made critical contributions by examining the dark side of automation, applying Innovation Resistance Theory to uncover how contextual and trait stressors can harm consumer engagement and wellbeing. Her recent studies dissect the dual-edged nature of robot design, analyzing how perceived smartness and humanness can simultaneously foster trust and positive attitudes while also creating value destruction. Notably, Dr. Wong has pioneered research on anthropomorphic features and their role in driving value co-creation and wellbeing specifically among Gen Z consumers. With a rapidly growing body of work accumulating over 50 citations in just two years, Dr. Wong is establishing herself as a key scholar shaping the future of service robotics and consumer wellbeing.
