About

Dr. Alireza Aminsharifi is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques, particularly single-port robotic surgery. His major contributions lie in refining and expanding the applications of the da Vinci single-port (SP) robotic platform for urological procedures. Through comparative studies, he has demonstrated that single-port robotic radical prostatectomy—whether via extraperitoneal, transperitoneal, or perineal approaches—can achieve perioperative outcomes comparable to or better than traditional multiport surgery, while reducing invasiveness and potentially enabling outpatient care. His innovative "floating docking technique" has improved instrument workspace during single-port procedures. Dr. Aminsharifi has also pioneered the use of single-port robotics for kidney transplantation, autotransplantation, pyeloplasty, and transvesical simple prostatectomy, with his most cited works collectively garnering over 600 citations. Notably, his cost-comparison analysis showed that single-port robotic prostatectomy can be more economical than multiport approaches. His work has been instrumental in establishing the clinical viability and expanding the scope of single-port robotic urologic surgery, making him a leading figure in the field.
