About

Dr. Albert El Hajj is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). His major contributions include landmark studies on Aquablation therapy, where his analysis of over 800 procedures demonstrated that athermal hemostasis methods can be as effective as cautery in preventing transfusions across varying prostate volumes (45 citations). Dr. El Hajj has also significantly impacted robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), showing that barbed sutures reduce anastomosis time and costs without increasing urethral stenosis rates (39 citations), and identifying preoperative patient characteristics that predict prolonged hospital stays using NSQIP data (17 citations). His innovative work extends to telemedicine, with the first integration of Aquablation through telemetry as an alternative to onsite proctoring (27 citations), and to novel diagnostics, including a nomogram incorporating platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio for predicting lymph node involvement in prostate cancer (6 citations). Notably, he has assessed the ILY® robotic flexible ureteroscopy platform in the first prospective clinical trial (12 citations) and compared robotic versus open partial nephrectomy outcomes during the learning curve (11 citations). Dr. El Hajj’s research consistently pushes the boundaries of urologic surgery, improving patient outcomes and expanding access to advanced care.
