About
Dr. Akchheta Karki is a leading researcher in the field of organic photovoltaics (OPVs), specializing in the development of highly efficient, stable, and ultra-flexible solar cells. Her most significant contribution is the creation of ultraflexible, 3-micrometer-thick OPVs that achieve a remarkable power conversion efficiency of over 13% while maintaining excellent environmental stability. This breakthrough, detailed in her highly cited 2020 paper (68 citations), was accomplished through a simple post-annealing process that forms doping-induced stable interfaces. By combining stable polymer donor and nonfullerene small molecule acceptor blends with thermally stabilized interfaces, Dr. Karki has directly addressed two of the biggest hurdles in OPV technology: efficiency loss and degradation over time. Her work paves the way for next-generation wearable electronics and building-integrated photovoltaics, demonstrating that high performance and long-term stability can coexist in ultra-thin, flexible solar devices.
