About
Dr. Yuriko Katoh is a leading authority on Hedgehog signaling and its role in human cancers. Her research has fundamentally advanced our understanding of how aberrant Hedgehog pathway activation drives tumorigenesis across a wide spectrum of malignancies, including glioma, medulloblastoma, basal cell carcinoma, and cancers of the lung, pancreas, and breast. Her landmark 2009 review, cited over 520 times, remains a cornerstone reference that systematically maps the mechanisms by which Hedgehog signals activate GLI transcription factors via Smoothened, and how RTK signaling potentiates GLI activity. This work has been instrumental in shaping therapeutic strategies targeting the Hedgehog pathway. Dr. Katoh’s contributions have provided critical insights into the molecular underpinnings of carcinogenesis, establishing her as a pivotal figure in cancer biology whose research continues to guide both basic science and clinical translation.
