About
Wilhelm Eisner is a pioneering neurosurgeon whose work has centered on advancing the safety and precision of brain surgery, particularly for complex, deep-seated lesions. His primary research areas include neuronavigation, intraoperative electrophysiology, and the development of novel registration and immobilization devices for image-guided therapy. Eisner’s most significant contribution is his landmark study on the combined use of robotic neuronavigation and electrophysiological monitoring for operating on subcortically located lesions within the sensorimotor strip—a region long considered inoperable due to high risk. This work, which has garnered 41 citations, demonstrated that such a multimodal approach can make these challenging surgeries feasible and safer. Beyond this, Eisner has been instrumental in designing innovative tools for multimodal image fusion (CT, MR, SPECT, PET, and ultrasound) and targeting devices, as showcased in his 2004 program. His achievements have helped redefine the boundaries of neurosurgical intervention, offering new hope for patients with previously untreatable conditions and providing a robust framework for future research in image-guided therapy.
