Roberto Salvia is a leading figure in pancreatic surgery, whose work has fundamentally reshaped the management of pancreatic diseases. His research focuses on two key areas: the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer and the clinical characterization of pancreatic cystic neoplasms. A major contribution is his leadership in the DIPLOMA trial, a landmark study that demonstrated comparable radical resection rates between minimally invasive and open left pancreatectomy for resectable pancreatic cancer, paving the way for broader adoption of minimally invasive techniques.
