About
Roberto Bustos is a minimally invasive and robotic surgeon whose research has significantly advanced the standardization and adoption of complex robotic surgical procedures. Working primarily at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Bustos has focused on robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD), robotic bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, and hepatobiliary interventions. His most influential contribution — a 17-step standardized operative technique for RPD, cited 74 times — helped demystify one of surgery's most technically demanding procedures, building on the world's first RPD performed in 2001. A subsequent educational video publication extended this work's reach, supporting training and global adoption.
