About

Raymond E. Levitt is a pioneering figure in the field of infrastructure project management and a leading voice on the organizational and technological challenges facing the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. His research focuses on reducing the chronic fragmentation that plagues large-scale projects, integrating computational tools with social and organizational theory. Levitt’s seminal 1989 paper, “Computer Integration: Reducing Fragmentation in AEC Industry” (170 citations), laid the groundwork for understanding how emerging computer technologies could synthesize data, design decisions, and knowledge across the many stakeholders in the AEC process. This work, along with his broader contributions to virtual design and construction (VDC) and project-based organizations, has fundamentally shaped how complex infrastructure projects are managed. As a Professor Emeritus at Stanford University and co-founder of the Stanford Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), Levitt has influenced generations of researchers and practitioners. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the ASCE Peurifoy Construction Research Award, and his research continues to guide efforts to improve collaboration, productivity, and innovation in the built environment.
