About
Pradeep Rao is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has fundamentally shaped the landscape of minimally invasive surgery. His primary research focus lies in the development and clinical application of laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) surgery and robotic surgical technologies. Rao’s landmark contribution, “Laparoendoscopic Single-site Surgery: Initial Hundred Patients” (2009), which has garnered over 300 citations, provided the first large-scale evidence that complex urologic procedures could be safely performed through a single incision, dramatically reducing patient scarring and recovery time. This seminal work, alongside his comprehensive review “Laparoendoscopic Single Site Surgery in Urology” (2009), established the foundational principles for a generation of surgeons. More recently, his critical analysis “Robotic surgery: new robots and finally some real competition!” (2018, 142 citations) has been instrumental in evaluating the emerging landscape of competing robotic platforms, guiding the field toward greater innovation and accessibility. Through these contributions, Rao has not only advanced surgical technique but also shaped the strategic direction of urologic robotics, cementing his reputation as a key architect of modern, scarless surgery.
