About
Dr. Pierre-Emmanuel Colombo is a leading colorectal surgeon whose research centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for rectal and colon cancer. His major contributions lie in refining robotic and laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME), demonstrating through a landmark single-center series of 400 consecutive patients that robotic surgery offers significant advantages for sphincter-saving procedures. This work, which has garnered 79 citations, established key protocols for port placement and single-docking, fully robotic proctectomy. Dr. Colombo has also pioneered robotic-assisted colon resection for splenic flexure cancer, including techniques for intracorporeal anastomosis, and developed tailored management strategies using highly-selective diversion to improve outcomes for low colorectal anastomosis. His research extends to optimizing adjuvant therapy timing in endometrial carcinoma through a multicentric retrospective study. With a cumulative citation count exceeding 150, Dr. Colombo’s work has directly shaped modern surgical practice, offering patients safer, more effective options for cancer treatment. His innovative approaches continue to influence how surgeons worldwide approach complex colorectal procedures.
