About

Jessica Stockheim is a pioneering surgeon and educator at the forefront of minimally invasive and robotic hepatobiliary surgery. Her research centers on three key areas: advancing robotic techniques for liver resections, standardizing surgical training, and optimizing intraoperative imaging with indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence. Stockheim’s major contributions include demonstrating the efficacy of ICG for tumor visualization and fluorescence angiography in laparoscopic and robotic procedures, as well as developing the innovative three-device (3D) technique for liver parenchyma dissection. Her work has garnered significant attention, with her top-cited paper on ICG in hepatobiliary surgery accumulating 39 citations, and her systematic review comparing robotic versus laparoscopic liver surgery receiving 22 citations. Notably, Stockheim is the architect of the “Robotic Curriculum for young Surgeons” (RoCS), a structured training program that has been cited 25 times and proven to integrate residents safely into robotic surgery without compromising patient outcomes. She also led a modified Delphi process to create a nationwide German curriculum for minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery (GeRMIQ). Through her blend of technical innovation and educational leadership, Stockheim is shaping the next generation of robotic surgeons while improving precision and safety in liver surgery.
