Fernanda Frade is a pioneering pediatric surgeon whose work has transformed the management of severe caustic esophageal injuries in children. Her primary research focus lies in minimally invasive surgical techniques for complex esophageal reconstruction, particularly in the pediatric population. Her landmark study, “Total Laparoscopic Approach for Transhiatal Esophagectomy and Gavriliu’s Esophagoplasty in Children with Caustic Esophageal Injuries,” introduced a groundbreaking total laparoscopic approach for transhiatal esophagectomy and esophageal replacement using an anisoperistaltic gastric tube.
