About

Aaron Benson is a pioneering surgeon whose work has advanced the field of robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery, with a particular focus on treating pelvic organ prolapse (POP). His key research areas include the development and refinement of minimally invasive robotic techniques, as well as the optimization of surgical training. Benson’s most significant contribution is the introduction and validation of supracervical robotic-assisted laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (SRALS), a novel procedure that secures the cervical remnant to the sacral promontory. His foundational paper on this technique (27 citations) established a new standard for treating POP. Beyond the operating room, Benson has critically examined surgical education, demonstrating in a highly cited study (19 citations) that formal, organized instruction significantly accelerates the acquisition of robotic surgical skills compared to informal practice. He has also applied his expertise to rare and challenging cases, such as performing a robot-assisted sacrouteropexy for a patient with classical bladder exstrophy (11 citations), showcasing the versatility of his approach. Through these contributions, Benson has not only improved patient outcomes but also shaped how future surgeons are trained in robotic techniques.
