The Vision of 6G: Drivers, Enablers, Uses, and Roadmap

Abstract
This chapter introduces current background of the evolution toward 6G. It reports the prediction of explosive traffic growth by 2030, which will drive the further evolution of cellular communications systems. The chapter explains high-potential use cases and applications for 6G. It reviews few 5G usage scenarios and provides possible definitions of 6G usage scenarios. It provides key performance requirements for 6G compared with that of 5G. The chapter summarizes the state-of-the-art research initiatives worldwide and foresees the potential roadmap toward 6G. It lists a number of potential 6G technologies. With the advent of new technologies and continuous evolution of existing technologies, e.g. holography, robotics, microelectronics, new energy, photo electronics, artificial intelligence, and space technology, many unprecedented APPs can be fostered in mobile networks. To well support disruptive use cases and APPs in 2030 and beyond, the 6G system will provide extreme capacities and performance.
