Abstract
Students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin researching the medical applications of lasers have worked toward the development and system specification for a retinal robotic laser system. The overall goal of this project is development of an automated surgical laser system for placing laser lesions on the human retina for the treatment of retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal breaks and tears. Faculty and researchers at the USAF Academy and Armstrong Laboratories have also become involved with this research effort due to similar research interests. This paper reports on automated techniques developed to automatically build data bases for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and retinal tears using image processing techniques.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
