Abstract
This paper proposes a generalised framework to accommodate different approaches to the architectures of autonomous systems. A number of fundamental principles for the structure are enunciated, and their application to several architectures described in the literature are given as a proof of the generality of these principles. A more detailed analysis of the inner structure of each principle and the interconnection between them is also shown.
