Abstract

A survey conducted in 1987 in two French areas Centre and Brittany on several hundred farmers (500 questionnaires studied) showed a generally rather favourable attitude toward technical innovations of which a list had been proposed. Management data processing, reasoned fertilization, telematics and - variable with the area - crops intended for industry or energy, or selection on high-yielding animal and crops were particularly well greeted. However plough-robot, growth accelerator, growth hormone (BST) and milking-robot got a majority of unfavourable opinions. A question about innovations that farmers would like to introduce in their farm pointed out a little more reserved attitude and a strong preference for management data processing. Results are presented for both rough and weighted sample and opinion variations according to various structural characteristics of farms are also analysed.
