Abstract
In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of sands are first surveyed for deserts in North China. In order to prevent desert storms,a trellis grass paving robot is developed. The robot's desert trafficability is further elaborated through formulating both tangential traction and motional resistance forces.Accordingly,a simulation is conducted using the drawbar's traction force as an evaluation index. In comparison with results from theoretical calculation and on-site testing,it is found that the robot possesses higher desert trafficability and therein meets the demands of grass paving.Furthermore, this approach is applicable to forecast the desert trafficabiltiy of a specific robot, which can be employed as a criterion for robot urchase.
