Abstract

The remote reconnaissance vehicle (RRV) has been deployed to take radiation readings and video recordings of the inaccessible basement elevation of the Three Mile Island Unit 2 reactor building. In the event of its failure, the RRV could not be manually retrieved due to the high radiation levels; thus, a reliability analysis was conducted to identify faults that could render the RRV irretrievable. A reliability improvement strategy based on the analysis results was developed and implemented. The analysis and conclusions are described in the paper.
