Optimizing Production through Digitalization: A Case Study on Smart Manufacturing in Port Machinery

Abstract

As intelligent manufacturing ushers in Industry 4.0, digital transformation of production facilities is crucial for remaining competitive. This study upgraded a large port machinery equipment workshop through integrating key enabling technologies. Further, A design plan was formulated involving comprehensive surveys and requirements analysis. An intelligent manufacturing workshop was established, comprising automated modules for plate processing, forming, assembly, and logistics. Digital integration between computer-aided design models and virtual manufacturing simulations validated new concepts prior to on-site implementation. Intelligent robot welding stations improved flexibility and reduced cycle times. Economic assessments revealed reductions in production cycle duration, improved material provision timeliness, optimized production rhythms, and lower personnel requirements. Digitalization enabled higher productivity, better resource efficiency, and decreased operating costs. Our study demonstrated how digital transformation enhances production efficiency, quality control, and competitiveness for manufacturing industries.
