Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an advanced technology in the biomedical sciences. The current research in 3D-printing technology specializes in personalized medicine, organ repair, and an effective way of treating infections with drugs delivered locally. Three-dimensional printing is becoming more widely used in research labs and hospitals around the world because its affordability and accessibility fundamentally changed the biomedical field. The utilization of 3D-printing technology in the medical domain has witnessed remarkable advancements, particularly in areas like personalized organ models and drug delivery systems. This chapter delves into the expanding frontiers of 3D bioprinting in organ regeneration, with a specific focus on tissues like the liver and skin. Beyond this, the scope of 3D printing encompasses a wide array of biomedical applications, ranging from photocuring methodologies and medical devices to personalized prosthetics, orthotics, and enhancements in hearing and vision. Even at the microscale, 3D printing manifests its relevance through innovations in micro-robotics. The potential for 3D printing in biomedicine enhances personalized treatments and improves patient outcomes. Printing can be widely used in biomedicine, and addressing issues with scalability, material characteristics, and cost-effectiveness will be essential.
