Abstract

Flexible Manufacturing Systems deal with high-level distributed data processing and automated material flow using computer-controlled machine tools, robots, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM> , assembly robots and automated material handling and storage devices, etc., with the aim of combining the benefits of a highly productive, but inflexible transfer line and a highly flex ible, but inefficient job shop.
