An automatic sealing system for battery lid based on machine vision

Abstract
In order to seal the sealing ports of battery lid quickly and accurately, an automatic sealing system based on machine vision is presented in this paper. The whole system is composed of the light source, industrial camera, industrial control unit and a 4-degrees of freedom industrial robot. Specifically, the coordinates of the battery lid is calibrated by visual calibration method accurately. Then the sealing ports on the battery lid are identified and located under the joint work of the contour recognition and fitting algorithms. Finally the sealing rings are grabbed and placed on the sealing ports of battery lid automatically using the industrial robot. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system can recognize, locate and seal the sealing ports of the battery lids successfully. More importantly, the proposed system can improve the efficiency of the battery production line obviously.
