Abstract

Contactless inductive power transfer is needed by many cases, such as, brushless wound field synchronous machines, robots and laser radar et al. The inductive rotary transformer is the key component of contactless inductive power transfer. This paper will review state of the art of rotary transformers. In particular, the existing structures of rotary transformers will be studied and analyzed. Then a new kind of two-halves primary core transformer structure will be proposed. Its optimal design procedure will be presented, in which the inductance, winding resistance, core losses and copper losses will be introduced. Finally, In order to verify the effect of such a rotary transformer, the finite element analysis of the designed rotary transformer is carried out.
