Abstract
portunity to bring business, industry, community colleges, and the public schools into a working partnership with teacher education. (The School of Educa tion also has its own Teacher Education Consortium, made up of students, faculty members, teachers, and school adminis trators.) 6. Effective use of educational tech nology. A new Technological Instruction Center has been approved for the WOSC campus by the state board of higher education. This demonstration/training center will use state-of-the-art technology. A similar development is taking place at OSU, where a collection of microcom puters, robots, and video/computer in teraction modules has already been developed. The OSU and WOSC faculties for computer science education and in structional media/technology make up the largest and perhaps the finest collec tion of experts anywhere in the Northwest on the uses of technology in education. The Quality Assurance Program will also be developing a computer literacy exam for all prospective teachers. 7. Optional/experimental programs. The Quality Assurance Program is not a single, uniform teacher education pro gram. Rather, it is an overall structure that will govern the development of a variety of distinct programs. 8. Development of preparation pro grams for educators in nonschool settings. Faculty members from vocational educa tion, adult and community college educa tion, and instructional media and tech nology are designing a new program in hu man resource development to prepare students to become trainers for business, industry, and government. 9. Program for research in teacher education and school improvement. In co operation with the Teaching Research Division of OSU, the School of Education has initiated a minigrant program to stim ulate inquiry into designated areas involv ing teacher education.
