Abstract
A paradigm change that can entirely transform design, engineering, manufacturing, and infrastructure is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into material science and construction. This chapter thoroughly examines the impact of AI on the construction sector, including the development of innovative materials, production techniques, and infrastructure. AI-driven technologies are modifying conventional practises and catalysing the industry towards significant transformation by utilizing data-driven analytics, machine learning, and robots. The chapter summarizes the literature on the interaction between AI, material science, and construction. The effects of AI on advanced manufacturing and materials are then covered. AI-powered simulations can speed up finding new materials and customizing existing ones by detecting specialized features through machine learning algorithms well before actual research. Similar to how autonomous robotics and agile 3D printing are introduced in advanced manufacturing, assembly processes are revolutionized, and high-performance custom components are produced. The potential for AI to change industry processes and fundamental ideas is then covered in the chapter. AI, data analytics, and robots can create intelligent infrastructures that improve structural integrity, optimize operations, and encourage sustainability. The symbiotic interaction between AI and modern materials can lead to self-repairing structures that endure hardships and self-heal over time, redefining resilience and environmental impact. In the end, introducing AI drives the building sector towards a future characterized by effectiveness, sustainability, and resilience. This will adapt not only building techniques but also how society views the function of construction. This chapter emphasizes how AI was essential in guiding the construction industry toward an era of innovation and revolutionary advancement.
