Medical Service and Robotics in 21st Century. The evolving role of robotics in surgery.

Abstract

The vision of the future is a new, intelligent OR -one that is enhanced by the use of computers and robotics. The new OR. will provide: Instrument systems which give surgeons the capability of performing new procedures -surgeries that are less invasive, more precise, more efficient and cost effective; robotics which reduce the need for human assistants performing routine, tiring tasks; voice-controlled networked systems which centralize OR control for the surgeon and provide immediate access to all necessary information. This new technology will greatly benefit patients, surgeons and healthcare institutions alike. The challenge will be to advance the technology in realizable steps that offer the most benefit and continue to support the vision of the new OR. 1.
