Abstract
Transhumanist ideas, criticisms, hopes and anxieties are culturally pervasive. The central notion of improvement or increase of human capacities is not new. What is new in the course of transhumanism is that from medicine to robotics, from biotechnologies to cognitive sciences, from nanotechnologies to astronautics, more and more concrete sketches are known. These techno-scientific advances projected to continue indefinitely in the future are the reason for philosophical, ethical and political reflection, and they give it its weight and seriousness.
