Abstract

The goal of the Symposium on Computational Fabrication has always been to bring together -- from all areas of science, design, and engineering -- people who use computers to make things. Our technical papers program this year does a good job of capturing that vision. From a strong field of 18 submissions, our area chairs and external reviewers selected 9 papers which demonstrated technical rigor, clear presentation, and novel results. In these proceedings, you will find contributions from architecture, human-computer interaction, graphics, robotics, and materials science; all tied together by the same thread: the idea that we can use algorithms to multiply, enable, and expand the capabilities of our physical tools. From cement and tree branches to lasers and projectors, these papers demonstrate that computational fabrication is relevant and powerful in an ever-growing array of contexts and situations.
