Abstract
The STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics for its acronym in English) is a response to current economic, political, environmental, social, scientific and technological transformations. The benefits of this trend focus their attention on the promotion of scientific vocations and the development of professional skills for the globalized world, therefore, greater emphasis has been placed on the role of the student than on the teacher. Based on the above, this document aims to present five challenges and opportunities for STEAM teachers, these are: 1). Understand theoretical aspects and frames of reference. 2) Know and possess specific skills of the approach to be able to promote them in their students. 3) Promote and integrate active methodologies for teaching-learning processes. 4) Generate STEAM application spaces through activities such as robotics, programming, communications and production or maker spaces; finally, 5) Be self-taught teachers. From these aspects it is possible to demonstrate the need to promote teacher training programs, which will allow the consolidation of a greater number of significant experiences in each of the educational contexts under their own needs.
