Abstract
This chapter presents an in-depth review of the progress and advantages of intelligent and sustainable manufacturing, emphasizing prospective implementations across diverse sectors. It investigates the strategies and technologies of intelligent and sustainable manufacturing and covers innovative renewable energy technologies, machine learning (ML) systems, advanced robotics and automation, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI). There are numerous advantages of sustainable manufacturing include environmental sustainability, enhanced working conditions and supply chain transparency, increased productivity and efficiency, and reduced costs. Additionally, the prospective implementations of intelligent and sustainable manufacturing in construction, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, textile, and electronics industries are explored in the chapter. Despite the considerable potential for intelligent and sustainable manufacturing to revolutionize both industry and society, its extensive implementation is hindered by significant challenges. These encompass the necessity for ongoing investment and innovation, the resolution of concerns regarding employment displacement, and the ethical ramifications of AI and automation. This chapter emphasizes the significance of sustainable and intelligent manufacturing in attaining both environmental sustainability and economic growth. It further advocates for the pursuit of ongoing research and development in this domain.
