Abstract
A central feature of ‘expert systems’ in chemistry, molecular genetics, geology, medicine, plant pathology, robotics, chess and other applications is the man-machine communication of descriptive concepts in the form of patterns. ‘Humanisation’ of machine-made representations must find a place in future designs.
