Abstract
Navigation is one of the pivotal and defining features of an autonomous robot. Essentially, the autonomous robot navigation problem can be divided into four parts namely: perception, localization, cognition and path planning, out of which path planning is important and has been a constant research topic. In this paper, a brief introduction and review of some of the path planning approaches (both classical and heuristic) is provided. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods are discussed.
