摘要

The research and development industry for the Internet of Things (IoT), an emerging technology, is increasing quickly. It intends to connect trillions of devices and billions of people so that it can swiftly acquire information, analyze it, and make informed judgments. Thanks to Industry 4.0, which links sensors, actuators, controllers, and numerous other devices, IoT technology is encroaching on a range of industrial fields. The IoT has gained popularity and is utilized in a variety of industries. The majority of industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions now in use, however, continue to rely on centralized designs, which are vulnerable to the single point of failure attacks and need a lot of processing at the central unit. Blockchain technology has the ability to drastically change IIoT platforms and applications, despite its relative youth. Thus, a new industry called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is created. Artificial intelligence, machine-to-machine (M2M) interfaces, big data analysis, intelligent robotics, and sensors are a few of the cutting-edge technologies that the IIoT aspires to integrate into conventional industrial processes. New smart industrial companies and next-generation smart systems are anticipated to appear when the IIoT is applied more broadly. Blockchain is one of these technologies, and by adding decentralization, trust, and security, it has the ability to totally change a number of sectors. Particularly in the banking and payment industries, blockchain has drawn a lot of attention in the literature and the media. A recent development in immutability architecture and internet security is the usage of blockchain at the corporate level. Two new application areas to pay attention to are Industry 4.0 and the IIOT (IIoT). This article discusses the challenges of using blockchain in each sector. We also examine a few potential blockchains uses for Industry 4.0 as well as some present impediments. In this chapter, we will examine how blockchain may support manufacturing applications for smart manufacturing. To improve the security, dependability, and self-sufficiency of smart manufacturing systems, this research also provides middleware architecture. This strategy will benefit all partners in the industrial value chain by generating strong trust and bringing certainty. Additionally, this will pave the way for a tonne of fresh applications that will aid Industry 4.0 in delivering on its promises of smart production. This study carefully and exhaustively investigates the integration of blockchain and IIoT technologies. Separately, we go over some of the major challenges and roadblocks that this blockchain-based IIoT integration encounters. The potential drawbacks of such integration are then discussed, along with a number of important commercial application areas. This chapter looks at current technical advancements and architectural ideas that deal with these problems. In addition to discussing current research trends and open problems in blockchain-enabled IIoT systems, we go over a number of industrial use cases that might benefit from blockchain integration.
