摘要
Optical wireless power transmission uses light, which is a short wavelength (micron range) and high frequency (over 100 THz) electromagnetic wave. This enables compact and long-distance power transmission without electromagnetic interference. Based on these features, in addition to indoor devices such as in-body implants, Internet of Things (IoT) terminals, and home appliances, it holds promise for outdoor mobility devices such as electric vehicles (EVs), drones, and robots. Dynamic charging reduces the need for on-board batteries, enabling uninterrupted operation. It also has potential for underwater power. Despite its simplicity, research into this system has been limited. However, recent advances in research and development have sparked interest, with potential applications in a variety of fields. This chapter provides an overview of the benefits and challenges of optical wireless power transmission, as well as the current state of research and emerging trends in its application.
