ETHICAL ROBOTS IN HEALTHCARE?

ABSTRACT Over the past few decades, the impact of technology and robotics has increased significantly in the field of healthcare. The scope of robotics is growing exponentially and its imminent influence in hospitals has spawned numerous debates, both for and against healthcare robotics. One of the crucial topics in these debates is whether scientists of today, or in the near future, can create ethical robots. As robots are regarded as machines, there is a concern about whether robots can act ethically on their own, and how ethics, a highly humanistic and subjective concept, can be programmed into their system. This paper seeks to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare industry, including advantages and issues surrounding healthcare robotics. It also discusses how AI can meet society's standard of ethics and how ethics can be mapped inside robotic systems.
