About
Yewei Zhang is a pioneering surgeon at the forefront of robotic hepatobiliary oncology, specializing in minimally invasive treatments for advanced liver cancers. His major contributions center on expanding the boundaries of robotic-assisted surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), particularly in cases once deemed inoperable. In his highly cited 2023 work, Zhang demonstrated the feasibility of combining robot-assisted laparoscopy with thoracoscopy to resect HCC with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus—a technically formidable procedure that pushes the limits of surgical oncology.
