Dr. Xirong Liu is a leading figure in satellite remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols, with a focus on advancing the retrieval of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) from geostationary platforms. Her research is critical for enabling high-frequency, dynamic monitoring of air quality and climate-forcing particles. Dr. Liu’s major contributions include pioneering data-driven algorithms for the new-generation Geostationary Ocean Color Imager II (GOCI-II) aboard GEO-KOMPSAT 2B, overcoming the challenge of missing short-wave infrared bands to produce hourly AOD products.
