About
Xiaoli Ding is a leading figure in satellite remote sensing and aerosol climatology, whose work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of atmospheric composition and land-surface interactions. Her most influential research centers on the validation and refinement of global aerosol products, particularly those derived from the MODIS instruments. In a landmark 2018 study, she conducted the first comprehensive, decade-long (2004–2014) global validation of the MODIS Collections 6 and 6.1 merged Dark Target and Deep Blue aerosol optical depth (AOD) products. By cross-referencing satellite data against 68 AERONET ground stations across diverse vegetated surfaces, Ding established critical benchmarks for product accuracy, directly enabling more reliable climate modeling and air quality monitoring. This work, which has garnered 64 citations, is widely recognized for resolving long-standing uncertainties in aerosol retrieval over complex terrains.
