About

X. Mirabel is a prominent radiation oncologist whose career has been defined by pioneering contributions to stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and robotic radiosurgery, particularly through the application of the CyberKnife® system. Working primarily out of Lille, France, Mirabel has made significant advances in the precise, image-guided treatment of challenging malignancies, including liver metastases, early-stage lung cancer, and pelvic recurrences in previously irradiated fields — areas where conventional radiotherapy often falls short. Among Mirabel's most impactful contributions are studies demonstrating dose-response relationships in hepatic SBRT (89 citations) and the feasibility of fiducial-free tumor tracking for lung cancer (87 citations), work that helped establish the clinical credibility of real-time motion-adaptive radiotherapy. Further research identifying prognostic factors for hepatic tumor local control (68 citations) added crucial nuance to patient selection and treatment planning. Notably, Mirabel also extended SBRT into the demanding domain of pelvic reirradiation (55 citations), offering hope to surgically ineligible patients. Beyond clinical outcomes, Mirabel's investigations into workflow optimization and Monte Carlo-based quality assurance reflect a commitment to operational excellence and treatment safety, ensuring that technological innovation translates reliably into patient benefit.
