About

Dr. Valentina Musacchi is a leading gynecologic surgeon whose research has significantly advanced the field of minimally invasive surgery, particularly through the adoption and refinement of robotic technologies. Her work focuses on optimizing surgical outcomes for complex patient populations, including those with benign gynecologic diseases, endometrial cancer, and transgender individuals. Her most impactful contribution is a seminal 2016 study comparing single-site versus multiport robotic hysterectomy, which has garnered 53 citations for its critical evaluation of surgical outcomes and cost-effectiveness. This work, alongside a highly cited 2015 systematic review and meta-analysis on barbed sutures in minimally invasive hysterectomy (48 citations), has helped establish evidence-based best practices for robotic surgery. Dr. Musacchi has also pioneered the application of robotic single-site techniques in challenging scenarios, such as for obese patients with early-stage endometrial cancer and for gender-affirming surgery in female-to-male transsexualism. Her ongoing analysis of learning curves for robotic hysterectomy (2022) provides essential guidance for surgeons transitioning to these advanced platforms. Through her research, Dr. Musacchi has not only improved surgical precision and patient recovery but has also expanded the boundaries of what is achievable with robotic technology in gynecology.
